Geneva - Erosion Hazard Map of cultivated soils - Geneva Territorial Information System

The erosion of agricultural and wine-growing areas must be avoided for economic and ecological reasons. As the amount of soil formed each year is low, losses of the order of one ton per hectare already lead to an irreversible decrease in the rooting volume for the plants.

When the erosive phenomena are repeated frequently, the capacity of the soil to fulfill its functions (production, water retention, filtration and adsorption of toxic substances) decreases, and all the more so as the losses are significant and the thickness soil is weak.

The map of the risk of erosion represents for the cultivated soils of the canton of Geneva (field crops, vines and permanent grassland) the probability that the fertility of the soil is threatened.
