Dickie Whitaker - Co-founder/Chairman
Dickie has 30 year’s experience in the Re(In)surance business and for the last 20 years has specialised in risk and innovation and linking academia, government and finance. Dickie has written and presented extensively on these subjects and has operated globally and has worked in both London and New York. He has co-founded and works for The Lighthill Risk Network, FiNexus Ltd, Oasis Palm Tree Ltd and is chief executive of Oasis Loss Modelling Framework Ltd. He also advises the following organisations:
- NERC’s Innovation Advisory Board,
- Satellite Applications Catapult Advisory Group
- South West Centre of Excellence Board - SAT APPS
- The Institute for Environmental Analytics (IEA)
- Insurance Development Forum (IDF) Risk modelling and management steering group.
- Institute and Faculty of Actuaries Research & Thought Leadership Committee.
Tracy Irvine - Co-founder/Managing Director
Tracy has spent the last twenty years in environmental science innovation and communication. She is a part of the team who founded Oasis Hub, as a way to enable all sectors to use data to understand their climate change and disaster risk and to enable society to take evidence-based steps towards resilience. Tracy is also currently working with Climate-KIC, to develop their Climate Risk Information Flagship and managing a large scale programme with 20 academic and SME partners, H2020_Insurance project, working on innovating climate science into practical actions.
Formerly, Tracy was the Director of SciDev.Net, a science for development news and analysis organisation and the Ecological Continuity Trust, supporting long-term science into climate and environmental change. She also worked at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, innovating plant science into global governments, particularly in the Middle East and businesses, including Rio Tinto, Alcoa and other mineral extraction companies, particularly in Environmental Impact Assessments and restoration projects. Prior to this she worked worked in Southern Africa for a number of years as an environmental and communication advisor to a National Civil Society Organisation. Tracy’s academic background is in environmental science and environmental archaeology, development economics and science communication.
Dan Gipple - Co-founder/Director
Dan is an experienced entrepreneur in the social and sustainability space, most recently with the ventures BetterPoints Limited (a Climate KIC partner) and CarbonRiver Limited, a specialist Hybrid LCA GHG consultancy and software developer. He is the former founder/director of portal/e-commerce developer of NMT Ltd. and a former international marketing executive for AT&T.
Jose Fernandez - Data Analyst
Jose Fernandez holds an MSc in Geophysical Hazards from University College London (UCL) and a Bachelor degree in Geography from University of Alicante. For the Oasis HUB Jose identifies external data sources, ensures all the Data Quality Indicators (DQI) criteria is met and creates compelling data visualisations to ensure HUB visitors can quickly determine the value of the data. Jose also works directly with the growing community of partners providing data, and is also actively involved in the service definition and design of the Oasis HUB. In his spare time, Jose is a keen photographer and traveller.
Jim Craig - Technical Marketing Director
Jim has 30 years experience in the IT industry ranging from startups to IBM and Sun Microsystems. For the last decade, Jim has worked at the nexus of technology and sustainability, as head of CSR and Sustainability for Sun Microsystems in the UK, and more recently as Global Product Marketing Manager for thinkstep (formerly PE International), a leading provider of LCA software. Jim brings his Product Management and commercialization experience to the Oasis HUB.
