The 3rd webinar of the Oasis Hub Community Webinar series was presented by Dr. Christoph Gornott, Agricultural Economist & Felicitas Roehrig, Research Analyst from Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact research.
The Topic: Providing crop insurance for smallholders through understanding yield losses caused by climate change
The series of webinars gives you a unique opportunity to learn, interact and ask questions from a panel of industry & academic leaders and experts giving you a real chance to pick an expert's brains and discover the latest trends and industry movements.
At Oasis Hub we continue to strive as a global community to act as a global conduit, allowing easy access to worldwide and location-specific environmental, catastrophe and risk data sets, tools and services.
Webinar 3/6
Date & Time: Tuesday 22nd October 2019 @ 10 am BST (11am CEST)
Duration: 45 minutes
Webinar Topic:
Providing crop insurance for smallholders through understanding yield losses caused by climate change
- The webinar will explore the use of technology in understanding yield losses caused by climate change
Panel:
Dr. Christoph Gornott, Agricultural Economist
@ Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK), Germany
Dr. Christoph Gornott is the leader of the working group “Adaptation in Agricultural Systems” at PIK. His research expertise and interest lie in the assessment of regional crop yields and the impacts of climate change on agriculture by using and comparing different methods. Among others, he developed the Agricultural Model for Production Loss Identification to Insure Failures of Yields (AMPLIFY) at PIK, a tool that makes use of statistical and process-based models using historical weather and yield data as well as remote sensing information to remotely assess crop yields and yield losses. He also works on designing and evaluating insurances and agricultural adaption options for developing economies. He holds a Ph.D. in Agricultural Economics and has broad research experience in Sub-Saharan Africa.
Felicitas Roehrig, Research Analyst
@ Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK), Germany
Felicitas is a Research Analyst in the 'Adaptation in Agricultural Systems' working group, where she is involved in different projects researching strategies for climate change adaptation and developing micro-insurance solutions for smallholder farmers in developing countries, with a focus on East Africa and Asia.
