Portugal - Wildfire Areas - The National Geographic Information System of Portugal

: The purpose of this resource is to annually map all the burnt areas of mainland Portugal. More specifically, it is possible to list the objectives in: - providing those responsible for the collection, production and treatment of GIs with a working tool that defines strategies and procedures to be followed for the graphic element to be characterized and represented, as well as for each of the phases of the process; - present the steps that are to be taken and must be followed, from the identification of the elements to the delivery of the result, in terms of form and content; - develop methodologies that enable the standardization of information, to be produced and processed, as well as its integration into a geographic database of national scope, ensuring the articulation between all levels of information; - georeferencing the information produced and treated; - uniformly structure the databases, operationally and geographically, for the storage and integration of the information produced and treated; - optimize resources, human and material, enhancing physical and technical capabilities, by simplifying the process of information integration; and - making structured information compatible with existing and in use systems.
