The map illustrates the damage caused by landslides, erosion processes and flooding to inhabited areas starting from numerous historical information that have been systematically collected throughout Piedmont examining the documentation available for the period 1830-1981. The damages are distinguished according to the process that caused them and reported by reporting the number of verified cases; the extent of the damage is also reported. The dataset is part of the Database of Geological Processes carried out in the second half of the 80s by the Geological, Meteorological and Seismic Risk Prevention Sector of the Piedmont Region (later merged into the ARPA) to respond to the growing request for logical and structured information on the territory , required for programming functions, coordination and direction of choices and interventions in the territorial-geological area. The original thematic data was produced on the IGM 1: 100,000 denomination, structuring and integrating the data already collected by the CNR-IRPI of Turin as part of the research aimed at assessing the dangers associated with hydrological events in the Piedmont area.
