Snowfall is the most common form of solid precipitation and usually falls from multi-layered Nimbostratus clouds. Snowflakes are nothing but mutually entangled snow crystals with hexagonal structure. On the triggering factors for the snowfall as well as the terms snow day, snow cover, fresh snow, climate records, snow conversion, snow density and snow measurement is discussed in more detail.
